Tragic Passing of Reverend Fr. Faustinus Gundu: Lightning Strike in Benue State

The Parish Priest of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jootar, Ukum Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State, Reverend Fr. Faustinus Gundu, has reportedly met an unfortunate demise, allegedly struck by lightning. The precise details of this incident, as initially shared on social media by Mbee, a prominent influencer, and subsequently by others, remain somewhat unclear. However, it is believed to have occurred on a Thursday afternoon in Jootar.

Fr. Albino, as he was affectionately known within the community, is said to have suffered a heart attack following a thunderstorm in the area. It’s reported that he had ventured outside to retrieve a towel during the rain but tragically fell and lay motionless in the downpour. It wasn’t until some attendants discovered him that he was taken to a nearby hospital, where his death was later confirmed.

As of now, there has been no official statement from the Church in Benue state concerning this incident, and information about it remains limited. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Catherine Anene, acknowledged that they had received information regarding the situation but emphasized that they needed to conduct a full investigation before confirming if the priest’s death was indeed a result of a lightning strike.

The deceased clergyman had served in various parishes across Benue State, including Katsina-Ala LGA, before his assignment at St. Joseph Church in Jootar, Ukum LGA.
