The hilly town of Ikare Akoko on Sunday June 6th , 2021 went agog as residents of the area trooped out to witness the installation ceremony of Hon. Adebisi Olanrewaju Abraham as the new Chief Alaja of Okegbe-Ikare by Oba Adeleke Adegbite Adedoyin, the Owa Ale of Ikareland.
Speaking shortly after his installation at the palace of Owa Ale, High Chief Olanrewaju Abraham said his ascending the throne of his forefathers was a dream- come true as the stool has not been occupied for 52 years and that the period of interegnum was largely due to litigations about the rightful house to produce the Alaja.
“I am the 11th Alaja, the last Alaja who occupied this position in 1943 passed on in 1969 which means the stool has not been occupied for 52 years and the period of interegnum was largely due to litigations about the rightful house to produce the Alaja, this was finally settled after an enquiry which declared that the rightful and the only house that can produce Alaja is the Alako family which is my family, I want to pay my respect here to all my fathers who laboured and died during the struggle, thank God, their yearning is finally realized.
Chief Alaja who said many had thought he would not be able to adapt into the new office as a technocrat who had been living in Australia for so many years said notwithstanding he has remained a lover of his culture and his people.
He however noted that it was quite unfortunate that the area had for long witness slow pace of development for so many reasons.
He further assured the people that their welfare and the development of the area will be prioritized. ” I am a politician/businessman and with this position which I see as another call to duty, my focus now must necessarily be grass rooted, the welfare of my people and the development of my locality has become more than ever before germaine, I intend to work closely with my community leaders, Chiefs and my able King to engender positive developments by God’s grace” he added, just as he thanked everyone for making the dream a reality.
“I give glory to God almighty for this achievement. I want to thank all the youth of Alako family who worked day and night towards the realization of this Installation. I also thank all my brothers and sisters, all the family elders who endorsed my candidacy, all Ikare sons and daughters home and abroad who supported me, my lovely wife, Mrs Taiwo Olanrewaju Abraham and my King Owa Ale Adimula of Ikare Akoko, Oba Adeleke Adegbite Adedoyin who accepted my nomination and installed me”
