Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho says the Ballon d’Or should reward players who will be missed forever once they retire, not those who simply win a trophy.
Speaking before Madrid’s LaLiga clash with Malaga, Mourinho named Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Diego Maradona and Ronaldo de Lima as examples.
He argued that the award should not go to a player “just for winning the Champions League or the World Cup.”
“The Ballon d’Or should go to one of those players… we miss them for eternity,” he said.
