The Igbo National Council (INC) is calling on security agencies to bring local vigilante groups into the ongoing operation to rescue National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members abducted in Imo State.
In a statement from its National President, Chilos Godsent, the group commended the Inspector-General of Police for the swift deployment of police, army, DSS and other agencies to locate the victims, while urging that vetted community vigilantes — who know the surrounding forests, bush paths and terrain — be formally incorporated into the search.
The INC argued that community-based security personnel can supply local intelligence and guide conventional forces through areas that would otherwise be difficult to access, and said doing so would help speed up the rescue. It also called for traditional rulers and community leaders to be engaged for actionable information.
