Obi Pushes for Stronger Nigeria–Switzerland Ties After Meeting Envoy

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has called for deeper cooperation between Nigeria and Switzerland, built on shared values and a common commitment to human development.

Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, shared details of his meeting with the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Patrick Egloff, in a post on X on Wednesday, describing the engagement as productive.

He said the conversation focused on Nigeria’s development priorities, singling out education, healthcare and poverty reduction as key sectors driving national progress.

The former governor praised Switzerland’s contributions to Nigeria, particularly in the North-East, describing the support as invaluable.

“I expressed my gratitude for the invaluable contributions of the Swiss Confederation to Nigeria’s development, especially its support for critical economic, cultural, humanitarian, and peace-building initiatives, particularly in the North-East,” he said.

Obi added that lasting progress would depend on the strength of such partnerships. “Building stronger partnerships founded on shared values and a commitment to human development remains essential to creating a more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria,” he stated.
