Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has cautioned the club against pursuing Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, raising doubts about his valuation and his suitability as a replacement for Mohamed Salah.
Carragher pointed out that a fee reported to exceed €150m to €170m would immediately shift expectations from potential to a demand for world-class output from day one.
He also flagged a positional mismatch, noting that Barcola operates mainly on the left, which would leave Liverpool still needing a specialist right-winger. “No he plays on the opposite flank! LFC currently have three players who could play from the left in Rio/Gakpo/Wirtz and no one who plays from the right,” he wrote.
The former defender argued that spending record money on one player has to be balanced against the overall shape and needs of the squad.
With Salah gone, Carragher said Liverpool must prioritise a high-class right-sided option. “Need a right winger desperately!” he added.
