Lionel Messi has wrapped up his international career with Argentina, capping it off with a 3-0 friendly win over Benin Republic in the early hours of Wednesday.
The match doubled as a farewell for the Argentina captain, who finishes as the country’s most-capped player and all-time top scorer with 208 appearances and 126 goals.
Addressing the 85,000 fans in attendance afterward, Messi promised to stay involved from afar: “I am going to miss all of you so much, but I will always be on your side. I will be supporting these boys and everyone who comes after them.”
