Nigerian Army University: Countering Insurgency & Promoting Diversity

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, provided insights into the establishment of the Nigerian Army University in Biu, Borno state, emphasizing its unique role in the fight against insurgency.

He explained that this institution was founded to adopt a non-kinetic approach in addressing the challenges of insurgency, while also striving to achieve social inclusion, gender balance, and diversity through education.

In a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army Chief clarified the significance of the first convocation of the institution.

Lagbaja, who also serves as the Pro-Chancellor of the university, revealed that the Nigerian Army University Biu represents a strategic shift towards non-violent methods in counter-insurgency operations in Nigeria. He highlighted the Army’s commitment to promoting social inclusion, gender balance, and diversity through educational opportunities.

Moreover, he said the new establishment and growth of the institution in the heart of the North East region reflect the collective successes of the Nigerian military in countering insurgency.

Lagbaja expressed his pride in the university’s first batch of graduates, recognizing their potential to contribute as problem solvers and self-reliant individuals, even in the face of security challenges.

The Chief of Army Staff proudly announced that a total of 417 students successfully graduated from the institution.
