Otti orders probe after Abia officials allegedly block driver's salary

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has ordered an investigation into allegations that two of his appointees blocked the July 2026 salary of a driver at the Government House, Umuahia.

The Director-General of the state’s Due Process and Public Procurement Bureau, Oluebube Chukwu, was accused of directing the Accountant-General, Njum Uma-Onyemenam, to withhold the junior worker’s pay over an undisclosed offence.

The matter was raised during Otti’s monthly media chat with Abia journalists on Thursday.

The governor said he was unaware of the action and doubted that his appointees would take such a step, directing the Secretary to the State Government, Emmanuel Meribeole, to gather details for a thorough probe.

Otti insisted that the arbitrary blocking of a worker’s salary had no place in his administration, adding that not even he could order a name removed from the payroll.
