The Nigeria Police Force has rescued two Colombian women who were allegedly lured to the country by a human trafficking syndicate and held captive in Lagos.
Force spokesperson CSP Aniete Iniedu said in a Saturday statement that the operation followed intelligence received by the NCB-INTERPOL Lagos Annex on August 26 about the victims’ whereabouts.
The women, identified as Maria Camila Rodas Ortiz and Yuliet Fernanda Rios Mesa, were said to have been deceived into travelling to Nigeria, where their travel documents were seized by suspected foreign nationals now at large.
Iniedu said operatives launched a covert operation on receiving the tip-off and traced the hideout where the women were being held.
The victims were rescued unharmed the same day, while the suspects fled after spotting the approaching officers, the police said.
