Publish fuel supply gap before import licences – Muda Yusuf tells NMDPRA

Economist Muda Yusuf has urged the NMDPRA to publish Nigeria’s fuel supply gap before granting import licences to marketers, arguing it would help revive the Dangote Refinery.

His weekend statement followed data showing petrol imports rose 43.3 percent despite the refinery’s capacity to meet domestic demand.

Dangote Refinery has blamed the regulator’s continued issuance of import licences for the surge and threatened to halt sales to importers.

Yusuf, head of the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise, said import approvals must be transparently tied to verified domestic supply gaps.
