Real Madrid appear to have won the race for one of Europe’s most coveted young talents after reaching an agreement in principle with RB Leipzig for Côte d’Ivoire international Yan Diomandé.
The development was reported by RMC Sport, via Yahoo Sports, and represents a major coup for the reigning Champions League holders.
Diomandé’s move to the Spanish capital is expected to command a fee north of €100 million.
For much of the transfer window, the back-to-back European champions had been considered front-runners for his signature, and they have now got their man.
The twist in the tale is Paris Saint-Germain, who had earlier struck an agreement on personal terms with the forward before pulling out of the chase altogether.
RMC Sport states that PSG refused to meet Leipzig’s financial demands, with the Ligue 1 side determined not to overpay for the youngster.
Adding to the friction, PSG executives were reportedly unimpressed by the conduct of Diomandé’s representatives, who are said to have shifted their position despite an earlier understanding with the French club.
