Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems is stepping into a landmark new role, having been announced as executive producer and curator of the soundtrack for the forthcoming film adaptation of ‘Children of Blood and Bone’. It marks her debut as an executive producer, and she also recorded three original songs for the project.
Fellow Afrobeats heavyweight Burna Boy joins the film as an executive consultant, while singers BNXN and Fireboy are among the artists contributing to the soundtrack. The music blends Afrobeats with orchestral arrangements from acclaimed jazz composer Terence Blanchard, layered with African instrumentation.
Director Gina Prince-Bythewood underlined the significance of the appointment. ‘I wanted Tems to curate the soundtrack. I wanted her to executive produce it,’ she said. ‘She’s actually the first woman to executive produce a soundtrack at this level, which is incredible.’
Adapted from Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling West African-inspired fantasy novel, the film carries a star-studded ensemble that includes Thuso Mbedu, Damson Idris, Cynthia Erivo and Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr. It is scheduled for a theatrical release on January 15, 2027.
The role continues a remarkable run for Tems, who has increasingly moved between recording, film and industry leadership on the global stage.
