SDP presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo has promised to install rooftop solar on every Nigerian home within 11 months of taking office if he wins the 2027 election.
Speaking on Arise Television, Adebayo criticised past electrification strategies that relied on expensive grid lines rather than decentralised solar, and said between 11 and 15 kW of solar could be placed on each roof.
He argued that Nigeria should manufacture panels locally and train communities to install them, recalling that he gave similar advice to the Obasanjo administration in 2001, and adding that local governments already have the funds to drive such a programme.
