The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has reversed its ban on Bolt and other ride-hailing operators at the country’s airports, days after the policy triggered widespread criticism over high fares.
FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs, Henry Agbebire, confirmed the U-turn in a statement on Thursday, following the controversy that trailed the introduction of the Airport Car Hire Rank Management System (ACHRAM).
The outrage was fuelled by a viral video in which a traveller claimed the FAAN-run ACHRAM had priced a trip at N30,000 — far above the roughly N8,000 the same journey would normally cost.
The authority clarified that ACHRAM is not a ride-hailing platform like Bolt or Uber and was never intended to monopolise car-hire services at airports.
“Following constructive engagements, FAAN and Bolt have reached an agreeable operational framework, and Bolt is cleared to commence its services at FAAN-managed airports immediately,” the statement said.
