More than 82,000 Argentina supporters have added their names to a Change.org petition calling on FIFA to replay the 2026 World Cup final following Spain’s 1-0 extra-time victory.
The clash was settled in New Jersey by a single strike from Ferran Torres in the 106th minute.
The petition’s author, Gisela Sanchez, alleges that the Slovenian match official “was bought to influence the match’s outcome.”
Argentina’s frustration was compounded when Enzo Fernandez was sent off in the 93rd minute after collecting two yellow cards.
Referee Slavko Vincic awarded 46 fouls in total across the contest, 25 of them going against Argentina, in a bad-tempered showpiece that also featured post-match flashpoints between players from both camps.
Sanchez argued that “a game decided by talent and dedication on the pitch” should not be undermined “by rigged refereeing decisions.”
The affair also drew comment from pundit Gary Neville, who branded Argentina’s recent conduct “a disgrace” while still acknowledging their competitive edge.
