Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has expanded its free fuel delivery initiative to four additional states — Kano, Imo, Anambra and Nasarawa — in a move it says should lower petrol prices at the pump.
In a statement on Sunday, the company said absorbing the cost of transporting products would ease the burden on independent marketers and cut one of the major expenses in the downstream distribution chain.
The scheme, which began with deliveries to Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Kaduna, Abuja and Delta, is designed to bring products closer to marketers and retailers while removing long-distance haulage costs.
Group Executive Director, Commercial Operations, Fatima Aliko Dangote, said the benefits of local refining must be felt beyond the refinery gate, adding that the savings were intended to flow through to consumers and support more competitive pump prices.
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) welcomed the initiative, with its spokesman Chinedu Ukadike saying it would ease the financial and logistical strain on marketers if sustained.
