Goodness Nwachukwu Breaks World Record to Win Discus Gold for Nigeria at Glasgow 2026

Goodness Nwachukwu produced the standout throw of the day to hand Nigeria its seventh gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, breaking the world record in the women’s F42-44/F61-64 discus event.

Her winning effort of 39.66 metres eclipsed her own previous F42 mark by more than three metres and allowed her to defend her Commonwealth title in commanding fashion.

Wales’ Funmi Oduwaiye took silver with 38.52 metres, while Bree Cronin claimed bronze with a season-best 36.00 metres.

Nigeria added to the celebration when Jessica Oji finished second in the women’s shot put with a throw of 17.87 metres.

The two podium finishes lifted Nigeria to fifth on the overall Commonwealth Games medal table, with a tally of seven golds, five silvers and two bronzes.
