Obi won't hand subsidy cash to governors or restore cabals – NDC

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, would not share funds from fuel subsidy savings with state governors as the current administration does, nor bring back the oil cabals that once profited from the regime.

The party’s Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada, drew a contrast with African Democratic Congress candidate Atiku Abubakar, who recently proposed reintroducing fuel subsidy if elected in 2027.

Tinubu scrapped the subsidy at his inauguration in 2023, and Atiku’s suggestion of a return has since stirred debate.

Agada, posting on X, said Obi would instead direct the savings towards quality schools, healthcare and job creation, and praised the candidate for remaining consistent on the issue.

He questioned the shift in Atiku’s stance, asking what had changed since 2023 when the former vice president wanted the subsidy removed.
