A House of Representatives probe has exposed a web of forged documents behind the so-called Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, an agency that lawmakers say has no legal foundation whatsoever.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, admitted her office ought to have carried out more due diligence before granting establishment and recruitment waivers, conceding that officials had acted on paperwork later confirmed to be fake.
Investigators said correspondence meant for the State House Permanent Secretary was diverted to one Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi, who allegedly passed himself off as the phantom agency’s Director-General. The committee uncovered fabricated legislative records, fake appointment letters and forged government documents used to secure recognition, noting that the supposed establishment Act lacked basic features such as citation numbers and Gazette references.
Police forensic analysis reportedly found the signatures on the documents were entirely invented rather than merely copied. The committee said it would seek court orders to compel the main suspect to appear, and plans to present preliminary findings next week before forwarding its recommendations to the full House.
