Osun poll was our toughest democratic test – Adeleke

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has described the recent governorship election as the toughest test of the state’s identity since it was created 35 years ago.

Speaking in a statewide broadcast to mark the anniversary, Adeleke commended residents for their conduct during the poll, saying the outcome proved their commitment to democracy.

“Nationally, my people have emerged as a shining light for democratic practice,” he said, describing the electorate as people of valour and integrity.

The governor said voters turned out in large numbers despite what he called a reign of terror, rejecting violence and, in some cases, defending their ballots at personal risk.

He also expressed sympathy to families who lost loved ones or suffered injuries during the election period.
