Ajibade Wants Winning Start as Super Falcons Open WAFCON Defence

Super Falcons skipper Rasheedat Ajibade has made it clear that Nigeria intend to kick off their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a win over Malawi’s Scorchers in their Group C opener.

The reigning champions face the tournament newcomers at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat, with kickoff set for 9pm Nigeria time.

Ajibade insists the mood inside the camp is right for the challenge ahead. “The team’s spirit is high. Everyone is fully focused. We know why we’re here and we are ready to take things one step at a time,” she said.

The captain also urged her side to stay grounded despite their favourites tag. “We’re approaching every team with a sense of humility and respect. Seeing Malawi qualify for WAFCON for the first time shows the progress they are making,” she added.

For Ajibade, the objective on the night is simple and non-negotiable. “A good performance for the Super Falcons is to win three points because that’s what matters in this tournament,” she noted.

Malawi arrive at the finals for the very first time, but Nigeria will be determined to assert their status as continental heavyweights from the opening whistle.
