CAF Doubles WAFCON Winners' Prize To $2m Ahead Of Morocco Showpiece

The Confederation of African Football has announced a major hike in the prize money on offer at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which runs in Morocco from July 26 to August 16.

Under the new structure, the eventual champions will pocket $2 million, double the $1 million handed to the winners previously.

The runners-up have not been left out either, with their reward climbing by 50 per cent to $750,000, while the third-placed side will earn 43 per cent more than before.

CAF has also raised the participation grant for every one of the 16 competing nations to $150,000, up from the $125,000 paid at the last edition.

Altogether, the overall prize fund has jumped by 67 per cent to $5.8 million, underlining the confederation’s push to grow the women’s game across the continent.

The growth over recent years has been striking. The champions’ purse has surged by 900 per cent from just $200,000, the total pool has expanded by 495 per cent from $975,000, and the tournament itself has grown from 12 to 16 teams.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons, the defending champions and holders of a record 10 continental crowns, stand to collect the landmark $2 million cheque should they successfully defend their title in Morocco.
