Wolverhampton Wanderers were forced to call off a first-team training session at Compton Park and step up security after a fallout involving Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare.
According to reports, the flashpoint came when new manager Cesar Peixoto refused to allow Arokodare to take part in the session, but the forward declined to leave the pitch.
The tension is traced to Wolves’ recent relegation from the Premier League and the strict discipline the Portuguese coach has since imposed on his squad.
Arokodare was subsequently left out of the group that travelled for a pre-season friendly against Maidenhead United, and he had earlier been omitted from the club’s pre-season training camp in Portugal.
The 25-year-old arrived from Belgian side Genk for a fee of £23.4 million but managed only three league goals in 33 appearances during a disappointing campaign.
With Peixoto seemingly leaving him out of his plans for the new season, the striker’s future at the club appears increasingly uncertain.
Fiorentina, Genoa and Trabzonspor are among the clubs reported to be monitoring his situation, fuelling suggestions that his stay at Wolves could soon be over.
