Netflix is continuing to deepen its Nigerian catalogue, adding the drama Colours of Fire to its streaming library and giving the film a global platform beyond local cinemas.
The move comes as the Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) opens submissions for the country’s Oscar entry, kicking off the annual race to represent Nollywood on the world’s biggest film stage.
It has been a strong stretch for Nigerian storytelling on streaming. Blood Sisters returned for a second season on Netflix earlier this year, picking up the fallout from Sarah and Kemi’s dramatic first-season fracture, while record-breaking cinema runs at home have shown the appetite for local content is only growing.
The combination of streaming reach and awards ambition captures where Nollywood sits in 2026: producing at scale, exporting aggressively, and increasingly confident that its films can compete for prestige as well as viewers.
