The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) is urging Nigerians to stay alert and keep up preventive hygiene measures after Kenya confirmed an imported case of Ebola, caused by the Bundibugyo strain, linked to an ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In a statement, the agency said that as of October 6, no Ebola case has been confirmed in Nigeria, but it is reviewing the risk and strengthening preparedness with government partners given the potential for international spread.
The NCDC advised regular handwashing with soap or alcohol-based sanitiser, avoiding contact with the blood or body fluids of anyone ill or the body of someone who died from an unknown illness, and steering clear of sick or dead wild animals and undercooked bushmeat.
