Oyo monarch petitions govt over alleged plan to dethrone him

A traditional ruler in Oyo State, the Aresaadu of Iresaadu in Surulere Local Government Area, Oba Abraham Adeyeye Oyerinde, has raised the alarm over what he says are plans by the state government to dethrone him.

In a letter to Acting Governor Adebayo Lawal, the monarch alleged that the move was being pursued through the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Oyerinde, who was installed in May 2019 by the late former governor Abiola Ajimobi and presented his staff and instrument of office the same day, used the letter to appeal to the acting governor to step in.
